The Round Table

The Round Table is a supportive group set up by Julia Fry and meets on the first Monday of every month at The Tea Rooms on Southover Street in Brighton from 7 til 9.30 pm.

Their next meeting is on Monday 4 June.

The Round Table is for amazing women who want to amplify their magnificence. Its a space to be heard on whatever you'd like to talk about in a group of 3 or 4 women (within a larger group), without interruption. Its time out from being busy to reflect on where you are in life and to be supported by the women in your group with questions, if you decide to invite them.

A pot of tea of your choice and sandwiches (salmon or 3 cheese) and cake are included in the price which is £15 per person.

If you would like to join this group please click here for The Round Table registration page. Places are limited to 26 so book early.

If you would like to contact Julia you can reach her at either:

Just a little Vine Brighton news update -

Business Skill Swap Shop

We have just launched the Vine Brighton Skill Swap Shop on our web forum - http://www.vinebrighton.co.uk/forum

We all know how costly it can be to set up a business - websites, business cards, advertising, mentoring...But what if you could swap your business skills in exchange for something you need for your business. Maybe you are a web developer who needs some help with writing press releases....maybe you are a writer in need of a new website to help promote your business...what if you could both work together to help each other out? This is why we have set up the Skill Swap Shop - as a way of our members communicating with one another & helping each other out.

Simply log on to our forum & sign up - then start a new topic in the Skill Swap Shop section outlining what business skills/knowledge you could exchange and what business service you are seeking.

Next Vine event

A reminder about our next Vine Brighton meeting. We are holding a social gathering at The Greene Room (upstairs in The Crciketers on Black Lion Street, Brighton) on Wednesday 23rd May from 7pm. Come and network with other like-minded business people; swap business cards, swap business ideas etc.

Future Vine events

We are currently arranging TWO Vine events for June. The first is a business breakfast with a talk from a very inspirational local business person. The second will be our usual monthly evening meeting with yet another successful business person! Both events will be FREE to attend - all you have to bring is a bit of money for drinks/croissants and business cards! More details to follow...

We hope to see you all on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the Vine forum - there are always new things appearing each week (articles, advice, skill swap requests etc.)

Kind regards

Sarah, Lucy & Vahsti

BodyAlive - On-site Chair Massage Service

Kelly Hutson has sent a message to launch her new Business. Please read, digest and take action on the following, this could benefit not only yourself but also your team and your company.

I have recently launched my own small business in Brighton and Hove. BodyAlive is an On-Site Chair Massage Service aimed at professionals in their place of work. On-Site massage is a short and effective treatment which can energise your staff, increase productivity and reduce absenteeism. The treatment won't disrupt your workday. It's more invigorating than a fifteen minute coffee break. On-Site chair massage usually takes about the same amount of time and produces better results.

The treatment is intended not only to relax tense and aching muscles, but to release energy and invigorate both mind and body.

What is On-site Massage?

The BodyAlive therapist comes directly to your office, carrying an easy to set up ergonomic On-Site massage chair. Your seated massage takes place directly through your clothes, ensuring modesty and convenience appropriate to the workplace. No oils or creams are used.

On Site Massage is a meridian based therapy in which thumb, finger, elbow and knuckle pressures are used to stimulate many of the acupressure points on the 12 major meridians accessible on the back, arms, hands, neck, and head.

The treatment time is usually between 15-20 minutes, but this can be tailored to meet your needs. The ending sequence is designed to enhance circulation and energy, allowing you to feel revitalised and ready to continue with the rest of your day.

How will this benefit me, the employer?

Massage reduces anxiety and other stress related symptoms; this can help reduce staff absenteeism. This highly visible contribution to your staffs' health will ensure your employees know how valued they are; this helps improves staff morale. Staff will return to their desk energised; this can help with productivity. On-Site massage will provide a valuable and cost effective addition to any existing well-being package; a good benefits package can help with retention of staff.

What are the benefits to my staff?

The On-Site massage treatment will leave your team feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and re-energised:

  • Eases muscle and joint stiffness and tension in the body

  • Relaxes and calms the nervous system

  • Relieves neck and shoulder pain and tension headaches

  • Prevents and helps RSI problems

  • Leaves client relaxed, refreshed and clearly focussed

  • Creates a sense of well-being

  • Improves focus and concentration
  • Improves circulation

  • What does the treatment cost?

There are three ways in which On-Site Massage can be funded. Either fully by the company, shared (in any proportion) or fully by the employee. BodyAlive can charge by the massage, by the hour, by the day or half day. Prices are dependant on all of the above variables.

    What to do next?

If your company is looking at ways to invest in employee well-being and you think that On-Site massage would benefit your team, book a free taster session for yourself and two colleagues, or call me to discuss the service and get a full costing.

I would love to have the opportunity to talk about how this might work for your company, not only as a benefit to the staff but also how this could work at launch events, corporate days, stakeholder evenings and family wellbeing days. If you feel that these details would be better directed to HR, or marketing, or the head of your department, I would be very grateful for any contact names you may have.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    With kind regards and thanks

    Kelly Hutson Dip. ITEC Embody

    The Shiatsu College Brighton

The Shiatsu College in Brighton have an Open Day this coming Saturday 5 May and also on Saturday 8 September 2007

This is an ideal opportunity for you to meet and chat with students, graduates and teachers of the College: get a sense of what you will learn from the course, what the opportunities are for practicing shiatsu, how the study can dove-tail into your life and any other questions that you have regarding shiatsu generally and The College in particular.

You will be given plenty of one to one time with our teachers and assistants to talk through the issues that are relevant to you, to ensure that you are comfortable and confident in the decision that you make regarding moving forward with your shiatsu studies.

You will also be offered a mini shiatsu treatment from a student or graduate, so that you can get a feel for the quality of practical shiatsu you can expect to develop during your studies.

All the course material will be on view so you can get a clear idea of the depth of theoretical study that you can achieve with The College.

And chat with the students and graduates about what you can expect as a student and practitioner of shiatsu.

…plus any other questions that you bring with you - we are happy to talk!

Just turn up at The Brighton Natural Health Centre (for direction see http://www.bnhc.co.uk/v1/contact.html )

    Shiatsu Introductory Workshop

    Sunday 6th May 2007 and
    9th September 2007
    10.30am to 4.30pm
    £30.00

This workshop introduces the basics of shiatsu, allowing us to practise simple yet effective techniques. You will learn Ki development exercises and how to apply them to working with others. The day also offers you an opportunity to see what studying shiatsu for a day at a time is like, a question often raised at the Open Day.

The course material and other information will still be on display, so you get chance to look through it even if you were unable to attend the Open Day.

If you have already done other introductory workshops or courses you will still find something new in the day, and an opportunity to deepen your practise.
